The exercise movement is in full swing with more and more people trying to keep themselves in good physical condition. There are many ways to achieve the exercise necessary to provide health benefits. While many people belong to gyms or fitness centers, still more exercise at home or in combination with cycling, running or walking.
Exercise floor mats of various types are used in homes, gyms, fitness centers, day care centers, to name a few. The mats provide benefits to the user as well as helping to eliminate damage to the floor that would occur with out them. They also improve comfort by reducing noise and providing a cushion which reduces vibration and leads to less stress on the joints.
Exercise mats are made from a variety of materials and may be designed for very specific activity. Some are made from vinyl which is a durable non porous material that you frequently see in gyms and fitness centers. Vinyl mats are ideal for protecting the floor beneath them in high impact applications and are easy to clean.
Depending in the specific use the mats come in various sizes to fit most exercise equipment like treadmills, rowing machines, bikes, etc. They will also help prevent damage to expensive flooring so in the long run it should be cheaper to use one than not.
PVC is a good, durable material for mats as well. PVC is available in a wide range of colors, patterns and textures to meet almost any need. Like vinyl, it can withstand the wear and tear and forces seen from weightlifting and other forces.
Mats are also available in various types of foam which is less durable and more permeable to liquids. Foam mats may be a better choice when doing workouts like stretching, yoga, ab-crunches, etc.
Some maintenance is necessary for exercise mats, though it is not difficult. Mats may be subject to heavy foot traffic and liquids including perspiration. To maintain proper sanitation they should be cleaned regularly with a disinfectant so proper hygiene is maintained.
